The modern Vice Presidency is just part of the lasting legacy of Walter Mondale. As a champion for economic opportunity, civil rights, a healthy environment, and much, much more, Fritz’s passion and dedication to public service demonstrated the power of partnership in leading the country.
But of course, his achievements are hardly confined to his time in the White House. As a Senator, he was a tireless advocate for the people of his beloved home state of Minnesota and a champion for fair housing, consumer protection, and anti-poverty efforts. Later, he was an invaluable asset and trusted voice for the United States abroad as U.S. Ambassador to Japan. Above all, he was an honest and earnest leader whose devotion to his country and his family never wavered.
I am forever grateful for the trail he blazed and send my deepest sympathies to his family and the many who loved him.
